Java Jazz 2006
Friday, January 13th, 2006 The three-day Jakarta Java Jazz International Festival 2006 is coming soon to Jakarta. I didn’t attend the 2005 event, but managed to catch parts of the show on television fairly recently. Listened to Earth, Wind, and Fire, Incognito, and Shakila (Indonesian singer, not to be mistaken with the Latin American Shakira). Yea, I liked that, and my friends and I are going to come for the show in March.
If you are a Jazz fan, in Indonesia, or plan to visit Indonesia in early March, you can contact Tika at 0818437447 or email tika@javajazzfestival.com for more information (http://www.javajazzfestival.com/).
2006 JJF will feature artists like Bob James, Dave Koz, Incognito, Tortured Soul, Eric Benet, Kool & The Gang, Luis Giraldo, and many more. Shoot, I was expecting Earth, Wind and Fire to be there, too. Oh well… There’ll be local artists, too, like Andre Hehanusa, Bali Lounge, Bob Tutupoly, Indra Lesmana, Wong Pitoe, Mocca, Ruth Sahanaya, Shakila, and others. Kewl! Real kewl!!
A real good break after hard works. Just be there chillin’, and listenin’ to great music. The event will be held at the Jakarta Convention Center located in in Sudirman Street. Been wanting to attend or watch some jazz performances in Indonesia, but never got the chance to do it these 3 years. The last time I watched an improvised jazz performance was in Arizona State University some 5 years back. It was a very pleasant experience, ‘coz I could experience a live music really ‘alive’. The mood’s just great!
There might also be another Korean Cultural Festival sometime this year. It is not a 100% certain for the moment. It’s partially a cultural awareness thing, trying to reach out to the Indonesian community and exchange cultural good-will. Korea Trade Center (KOTRA) Jakarta hopefully will participate. I am really looking forward to that!
Another thing is the hiking club I just signed up with. Unfortunately, looking at their hiking trip schedule for 2006, I don’t think I can participate in most of the trips. Each trip lasts a week or more, and I don’t have that luxury. So I’ll probably participate in a trip scheduled during the Lebaran holiday period.
